Go Green with OnTrac During the Month of April

Posted on Apr 4, 2016 11:32:33 AM

ontrac-tree-in-a-box.pngAlthough National Earth Day is celebrated on April 22nd, many companies and organizations celebrate the entire month of April making it Earth Month. At OnTrac, we do our part every day to take care of the environment and we hope you are too. Being a SmartWay Transport Partner is one of the ways we reduce our footprint and act as an example within the logistics industry. Over $24.9 billion dollars in fuel costs have been saved through this program and the 3,000 SmartWay Transport Partners who participate.

Another way that we at OnTrac are celebrating Earth Day every day is through our PDF invoicing. All of our customers are encouraged to Go Green with OnTrac by switching to PDF Invoicing to no longer receive invoices by mail. OnTrac offers PDF Invoicing in a new, easy to read format. It’s extremely easy to switch by calling the Billing department at 877-227-5139. We hope that all of our customers take advantage of this opportunity to reduce waste and elect PDF Invoicing.

Not only is April Earth Month, it is also National Volunteer Month, which are two themes that go great together. As stated in the Huffington Post, there are more than 62 million Americans who donate about 8 billion hours of their time a year to the causes and organizations that mean the most to them. Based on scientific research, volunteering is good for maintaining physical and mental health, with benefits such as lower blood pressure, less stress and living longer lives. Not only should we celebrate those who volunteer, we should also volunteer ourselves. Perhaps participating in an organized cleanup event at your nearby park interests you.

OnTrac Celebrates 25 Years of Service with the American Cancer Society

Posted on Feb 4, 2016 9:00:00 AM
OnTrac is celebrating their silver anniversary this month. The company started with a service area of one state delivering eleven packages on the first night to being the largest regional package delivery company in the United States. It has been exactly twenty-five years since the dock doors first opened and packages were first delivered in California. The overnight service was added in 1991 to an already established messenger service, which created California Overnight. A lot of change has occurred since then, including an expanded service area from one state to a total of eight, which led to a name change in 2008 from California Overnight to OnTrac. Other features that have molded OnTrac to be a top choice as an express shipping alternative is the USPS Package Consolidation Service called DirectPost, which OnTrac was the first regional carrier to offer this service. Among other benefits like being a SmartWay Transport Partner, a USPS Workshare Partner and partnerships with over thirty different multi-carrier software providers.25th-logo-01.jpg

OnTrac President Rob Humphrey said, “It is with a great sense of pride that OnTrac has grown to providing overnight delivery services to over 60 million consumers in the eight western states.”

This month we are commemorating this milestone by joining efforts with the American Cancer Society to find a cure. On February 25th, 2016, OnTrac is hosting a Relay For Life event at their headquarters. This will allow corporate employees to bring awareness to the cause by walking laps around the OnTrac building and raise funds through their personal fundraising pages. Following this event, each OnTrac facility will have the opportunity to join a local Relay For Life walk that is hosted by an American Cancer Society Community Manager. In addition to employee involvement at each event, OnTrac is making a donation to the American Cancer Society to further their research in finding a cure.

“It warms my heart that OnTrac elected to celebrate their birthday with the Official Sponsor of Birthdays by raising awareness and fighting back against the disease,” said American Cancer Society Senior Market Manager Sarah Boerner. “We’re very excited to launch the OnTrac Relay For Life event and to welcome OnTrac employees at local Relay For Life events within the greater OnTrac service area.”

A Day in the Life of OnTrac on Interstate-5

Posted on Jan 29, 2016 9:30:00 AM

11.29.16_OnTrac_Interstate_5_PHOTO.jpgOnTrac is the largest regional ground transportation network in the country. We rely on the road infrastructure to move our trailers through states, between facilities, and from our docks to the customer’s doorstep. Along the three Pacific Coast states, Interstate 5 is vital to our network connectivity.

Running 1,381 miles through California, Oregon and Washington, I-5 spans all the way from the country’s busiest border crossing in San Ysidro / San Diego continuing north to the Peach Arch Border Crossing into Canada. Each day OnTrac transports freight up and down the I-5 corridor. Each section of I-5 has its unique territorial challenges. Near major metropolitan areas, heavy traffic is the biggest headache for our freight delivery teams. The I-5 bottleneck through downtown Seattle is rated the 17th worst in the entire nation. In California, the evening rush hour on I-5 Los Angeles and Orange County is the worst traffic in the state. Ask any resident in Southern California about traffic and you’re in for an ear-full. The afternoon commute from Portland across the Interstate Bridge into Southwest Washington is pure gridlock – bumper to bumper every day with an average speed of 13 mph.

11.29.16_OnTrac_Interstate_5_PHOTO_CA.jpg

11.29.16_OnTrac_Interstate_5_PHOTO_OR.jpg11.29.16_OnTrac_Interstate_5_PHOTO_WA.jpgWhile traffic gives everyone a headache, I-5 isn’t always a parking lot. If you start in Southern California and drive up and over Tejon Pass, eventually the freeway goes through long, flat, rural stretches of California’s Central Valley. Tejon Pass, elevation 4,160, is the highest point on I-5 in California and sometimes closes when severe winter weather hits. In the Central Valley, I-5 runs parallel to Hwy 99 and bypasses the region’s major population centers and therefore has less traffic. Depending on the person, this section of I-5 could be described as pleasant or desolate. On this leg of I-5, farms and fields stretch out to the East and the Coastal Mountain Range in the distance to the West.

If you keep going north on I-5 through the Sacramento Valley you start gaining back elevation. After you pass through Redding, CA, and enter the Cascade Mountain Range the increase in elevation creates some nasty winter weather. Winding roads, snow, ice, and fog slow transportation through the mountain passes. The highestpoint on I-5 is Siskiyou Summit just north of the California-Oregon border. With an elevation of 4,310 feet and steep, winding terrain, this neck of I-5 can become impassable and is often closed until the weather subsides and the roads are safe to travel. Travelers are often required to chain up and use extreme caution.

Once truckers and travelers safely pass through the Siskiyous and cruise on through Medford, OR, it is smooth driving for a few hundred miles through the Umpqua Valley and north through the Willamette Valley until you hit the major metropolitan areas of Salem and Portland. Passing over the Columbia River on the border of Oregon and Washington, the speed limit on I-5 increases to 70 MPH, making your trip a little faster! If you’re heading from Vancouver, WA to Vancouver, BC you’ll be on the road for a little over 300 miles.

Love it or hate it, I-5 is travelled for thousands of miles each day by drivers and truckers carrying OnTrac freight. This one stretch of freeway continuously spans three states and connects three different countries and hundreds of cities and towns. Next time you drive the five, consider all the folks who spend their day on the road for OnTrac!

OnTrac Shipments are Trackable on eBay

Posted on Jan 12, 2016 9:00:00 AM

OnTrac and eBay have teamed up to provide OnTrac tracking information to all eBay customers. The addition of OnTrac to eBay’s list of carriers was in response to sellers requesting to use OnTrac to ship their products over other shipping services.

For buyers, they receive an automated email with the tracking number and a delivery update through ‘My eBay’ to make the purchasing process as smooth as possible.

“We’re excited about adding OnTrac as a reliable shipping solution to the eBay marketplace,” says eBay Global Delivery Experience and Local Vice President Carl Gish. “The integration of their service will greatly benefit eBay customers and help further eBay’s efforts to create frictionless commerce experiences.”
