National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is now 30 years old! A partnership between the American Cancer Society and the pharmaceutical division of Imperial Chemical Industries, which is now a part of AstraZeneca, founded NBCAM in order to promote mammography as the most effective weapon in the fight against breast cancer. Throughout the years, additional breast cancer charities, foundations, research groups and corporations, have joined in with events and activities to help spread awareness of the disease and fundraising for research that will help to find a cure. There are many ways to get involved during the month of October and the other 11 months of the year as well. Below we have outlined some events going on right now. Please look carefully at the dates that the events are taking place in your city. These dates can fluctuate based on which state you live in.
Susan G. Komen offers multiple events during BCAM. Komen Race for the Cure is the largest educational and fundraising event for breast cancer in the world. This event is a series of 5k runs and fitness walks to raise funds and awareness for the breast cancer movement. All ages and fitness levels are welcome. Continue to their website to find more information about an event near you. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day event is a journey of a lifetime that you’ll never forget. It’s a 60-mile event held over three days. Follow the link for more information. If you’re not able to attend either of these events, Susan G. Komen can also help you to find additional local events to get involved in, here.
Another option to get involved is through the American Cancer Society. Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walks is an opportunity to raise funds to help save more lives from Breast Cancer. If you are able to volunteer or join this year, follow the link here or learn more by watching the video below.
For those of you who are unable to join a weekend event, National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF) offers a VRace (virtual race) as a fundraiser. NBCF helps you to make a personal fundraising page and allows you to bike, run or walk with your favorite GPS tracking app to turn your action into impact. Share your experience through social media with the hashtag, #HelpingWomenNow. To find out more, visit their website.
