Today’s blog post is written by OnTrac guest blogger Corporate Account Manager Nina Hegyi. Nina joins us to share her story about Yoga for Hope, which took place Saturday, August 13th, 2016 at Petco Park in San Diego, California. OnTrac participated this year with a donation to the City of Hope. To read about past Yoga for Hope events, please click here for 2015, and here and here for 2014.

It fills me with both elation and amazement that August 13th was my sixth Anniversary participating in Yoga for Hope and supporting the wonderful work that is done at the City of Hope.

My passion for finding a cure for cancer and supporting the efforts of treatment comes from losing my mother to leukemia when I was young. The seed of volunteering was planted by my father. Shortly after we lost her, my father got my brothers and I involved in volunteering to empower us. It has now become a legacy to both my parents. It also fills my heart with joy that my son, Derek, shares this passion and that the legacy my father started is continuing with him. Unfortunately, I am not alone. There are still way too many children who have grown up without their moms, dads, and loved ones because they lost their battle to cancer. My personal battle continues.

As long as there is a cause that will help to cure cancer you can count on me to help. I’m happy beyond words that my OnTrac family has also been there with me supporting this battle. It started about 17 years ago when OnTrac, known as California Overnight back then, embraced what I was doing in San Diego with the American Cancer Society (ACS) Daffodil Days. For three consecutive years during the month of March, so many people at OnTrac were donating their time to deliver daffodils, which freed up the good people at ACS in order for them to generate more donations, and generate donations we did. I was honored by the ACS in San Diego for what I started. During their introduction, they said that our help generated over $500,000 statewide.

20160813_103054_resized.jpgI was asked to join the Women's Council for the City of Hope in San Diego 10 years ago. In addition, I was also part of the group who started Yoga for Hope six years ago. Now, Yoga for Hope is a major fundraiser for the City of Hope and has grown to include three other cities. I, along with many others, look forward to the day there is a cure. With the work being done at the City of Hope that day is hopefully coming soon. However, we are not there yet. That is why once again, and following in the five years prior, I was part of Yoga for Hope San Diego. My OnTrac family was there to count on for support once again so that the City of Hope can continue to conduct more research, provide more treatments and encourage more people to go from hopeless to hopeful. To ensure the success of all the wonderful work done by the City of Hope, you can still donate here.

The one lesson I have learned from volunteering is that you don't have to be a big donor to make a difference. Small donations add up to make many differences. Those differences add up to many new treatments and advancements to finding a cure so that children don't have to know what it is like to grow up without a Mom. Until that day comes, the legacy to my parents will continue and I know that my OnTrac family will be right there to help!

OnTrac Spreads Awareness at the 5th Annual Yoga for Hope Event

Posted on Jun 17, 2015 2:25:00 PM

OnTrac Yoga for Hope 2015OnTrac participated at the 5th annual Yoga for Hope event that took place on Saturday, June 13, 2015. This year also happens to be the 5th year of participation for the OnTrac “Delivering Hope” team. To celebrate the fifth year of the largest yoga fundraiser in Southern California, OnTrac increased its donation to $2500 as a Karma Sponsor. The Yoga for Hope event benefits the City of Hope, which is a leading research and treatment center dedicated to the prevention treatment and cure of cancer.

The goal of Yoga for Hope is to bring awareness to the benefits of relaxation and well-being through gentle restorative yoga practices in combination with traditional treatments for patients with life-threatening illnesses. Nina Hegyi, OnTrac Corporate Account Manager, has led team “Delivering Hope” every year. Hegyi honors her mother through her practice since losing her to cancer. Hegyi shares, “Unfortunately most people have had their lives touched by cancer. The City of Hope, through research and treatment, helps so many families go from hopeless to hopeful.”

The event was held on the field at Petco Park in San Diego for the third consecutive year. Team “Delivering Hope” included ten participants who enjoyed yoga practices from four diverse instructors. Shopping at the Yoga Marketplace featured over 30 vendors, which included team “Delivering Hope” in beading cancer one bracelet at a time. Beading cancer sold handmade bracelets to fundraise for Yoga for Hope. More than $100,000 has been raised since Yoga for Hope started in 2010. Since then, thousands of yogis have united in working together to bring awareness to the City of Hope.

If you ask people who have achieved any kind of success who their biggest inspiration was, or who has had the most profound influence when it came to success in their life, you might find a majority would say it was their mother.

For OnTrac Corporate Account Manager Nina Hegyi, that answer is always bittersweet.

“I lost my Mom when I was young and was robbed of so many lessons and too many years of celebrating her,” she said. “So, that’s the bitter part.”

But here is the sweet part – in that time, Hegyi’s mom was able to pass on some knowledge.

“She did a lot in the little time she had,” Hegyi said. “Even though my Mom did not have a long time to download all her knowledge to me she did pass on a wealth of wisdom that has helped me in so many ways to become successful.”

One of those is her willingness to volunteer, to give back and to continue fighting for the cure to a disease that took her mother too soon.

For the last four years, the City of Hope has hosted Yoga for Hope, an event that brings together yoga beginners and experts to raise awareness of the benefits of yoga for patients with life-threatening illnesses.

This year, Hegyi, and team Delivering Hope, will come together to raise money and participate in the Yoga for Hope event held on June 7 at Petco Park in San Diego.

“For us, this is personal,” she said. “And for so many others like us, it’s personal too. You just feel powerless when a loved one gets a horrible disease. You feel powerless and hopeless when they are taken away. And they are always taken away too soon.”

Hegyi has been on the Women’s Council for City of Hope for 10 years and the OnTrac team, Delivering Hope, will be fundraising in the area and donating funds to support the event.
